Assignment 2b
- What does MoLAA stand for? .25 percent
MoLAA is the Museum of Latin American Art, which is located in Long Beach, California.
- Explain what you see on the above video clips (be specific)? .25 percent
Clip 1- The clip is about 10 minuted long, and is a photo slide show. It begins with photos of the museum and founder, and the progress of the museum until it opened. It then begins to show photos of all artwork in the museum, as a sort of guided tour of the museum. The music could be different, as it was meant to be catchy and upbeat, but I needed to turn down the volume as it was not my type of music. One of my favorite clips was about 4:10 into the show, where a piece entitled, ‘Dissection of a Pear,’ is shown and it is just that, roughly a 4ft tall model of a pear cut vertically into 4 slices. I like this clip, not because of an obsession of fruit, but because it proves we all look at things different and I love that a pear can be just a fruit to someone, but it can also be cause for a work of art to others.
Clip 2- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLkgMi5ZdQc , this video is literally a tour of the museum through one person’s camera. Someone went around mthe museum and videoed everything with close-ups of all paintings, in all of the exhibits. My favorite part of the video was the outdoors of the museum. It looks like a quaint town center in the middle of any town in Latin America, with a fountain adding a very soothing & calming touch to anyone who stops for one minute and just enjoys the surroundings.
Clip 3- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu5geLH1Q9A&feature=related , this video is very well done with superior camera work. It is a summary of the museum and exhibit, sponsored by LAX magazine, no doubt as a way to get tourists to the area and hopefully enjoy the museum. Art workshops are available for all ages. Many locals attend the museum on the weekends with their family.
- What did you learn from the video clips (3 facts)?1.5 percent
- I learned from the 2nd clip that religious icons are often used in Latin American Artworks.
- In the 1st clip, I learned that the museum is a relatively new museum, in Southern California.
- I also learned that although many of the artworks inside the museum are very traditional and classic, the building itself is very contemporary and modern.
- Create 3 questions for your classmates based on the clips or websites (tell them which specific link to visit to find the answer) 1.5 percent
